D’Artagnan

May 2, 2008

He was a melancholy figure on horseback. He came like a shape gathering itself out of the darkness. Hoof beats scrapping against the cobblestones, drawing his queen out of the chapel to gaze out the bay windows.

For a moment, their gazes meet, no words were required, tense and passionate emotions were writ in their faces.

D’Artagnan took off his hat,a gesture of farewell.

‘Anne,’ He whispers her name, when the eyes of the world are no longer looking the queen takes off her mask to smile.

He leaves a single rose in his wake, as he left for his death.

(Fanfic inspired by the movie, The Man in the Iron Mask)
